Ukraine House in Denmark is the center of the Ukrainian culture in Denmark.
It is home away from home for the Ukrainian community and a focal point for Danes who are in love with Ukraine or are getting to know the Ukrainian culture. It is an expression of trust and ambition to build a better world based on shared values and complementary perspectives.

Our Story
The Ukraine House in Denmark is a Ukrainian cultural institution with a mission to deepen Ukrainian-Danish cooperation in the field of culture and creative industries for sustainable peace in Europe based on common values. In February 2023, the Danish Ministry of Culture allocated the former premises of the Danish Architectural Center in the center of Copenhagen to implement the strategy and activities of the Ukrainian House team. Since then, an international volunteer team of 20 people in Copenhagen has hosted more than 7,500 guests, held 6 exhibitions of Ukrainian contemporary art, design, photography, architecture, organized more than 80 dialogues, panel discussions, lectures and presentations involving 100+ Ukrainian and Danish parliamentarians, journalists, artists, architects and other opinion leaders, integrated Ukrainian content into leading Danish cultural platforms, such as the Copenhagen Democracy Summit, Copenhagen Architecture Festival, Night of Culture, Copenhagen Photography Festival, and 3DaysofDesign, organized concerts of the most prominent Ukrainian musicians in Denmark, including the Dudaryk National Choir’s performance in the Copenhagen City Council for the 800 guests etc. Since July 2023, the Ukraine House has become an associate member of the Association of Cultural Institutes of EU countries in Denmark.

The Ukraine House in Denmark consistently elevates the voices of Ukrainian artists and authors in the Danish media, stimulating publications, such as the article on the legacy of Viktoria Amelina, killed during the war, or the publication of an essay by Iryna Tsylyk. In the autumn of 2023, the Ukraine House launched a major educational campaign for Danish society and politicians regarding the need for Denmark to recognize the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. Ukrainian film screenings and literary readings are held every week in the Ukraine House, which allow Danish and Ukrainian audiences to get to know Ukrainian culture.

To mark the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian House, together with the Danish Cultural Institute, the Goethe Institute and the Mungo Park Theater, created a platform "Voices of Dignity", for which a number of poems by Ukrainian authors were translated into Danish, and during the festive evening, Ukrainian poets and authors Iryna Tsylyk, Kateryna Kalytko, Oleksandr Mykhed, Halyna Kruk, Iya Kiva, Iryna Shuvalova read their works in Ukrainian, and famous Danish actors, including Mia Lerdam and Gita Njorby, recited them in Danish to the musical accompaniment of Olesya Zdorovetska. About 200 people were absorbed by the beauty of the Ukrainian language and the depth of modern Ukrainian poetry, which they were able to experience in their native language. Towards Ukraine's Independence Day in 2024, Ukraine House organized the international premiere of the Heart of Earth exhibition together with the Ukrainian flagship cultural institution Mystetskyi Arsenal. The opening was accompanied by the iteration of the Voices of Dignity event including premiere of Oleksandr Dovzhenko's "Zemlia" ("Earth") silent film screening with music performance by Pyrih and Batih, a musical project that brings back the legacy of the killed by the Soviet regime Ukrainian poets. The contemporary poetic intervention was provided by Shevchenko National Prize Laureate Kateryna Kalytko reading her works from the selection called Ukrainian Fatigue in Ukrainian while in Danish her poems were recited by the iconic Danish actress Mia Lerdam.

In April 2024, the Ukrainian House held the first conference "Decolonization of mindsets — for security in Europe and Ukraine", which brought together leading Ukrainian and Danish experts on decolonization.
